Championship Week – Huge Warrior Success!

November 2, 2014/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Having 4 teams in the NCAFA Championships was a great honour for our Club this past weekend.  We are excited to announce that our Tykes and Bantams came out on top!

Tyke:  “In our semi-final game we would make a dramatic second half comeback against the Outaouais Saints to thrust us into the Sullivan Conference NCAFA Championship against the East Ottawa Generals.  Like true Warriors, our young players relied on their preparation to compete with disciplined defense and some great running by our Offensive backs Greg Cowan (Stittsville), Avery Osbourne (Stittsville), Julian Beaulieu (Stittsville) and Ribensley Boisette (Ottawa) in the final minutes sealing an exciting victory for the Warriors.” ~ Brian Patterson, Tyke Head Coach

Mosquito:  “The Bell Warriors Mosquito team had a hugely successful 2014 Season. Undefeated during the regular season, led by quarterback Josh Baylin (Nepean), they relied on a combination of the strong running of Trey O’Brien (Nepean) and Daniel Briere (Nepean) in the backfield with the size and speed on defense of Ethan Ryan (Carleton Place), Shyreek Phillips (Nepean), Jacob Smith (Nepean) and Jack Buckley (Stittsville) to go 8-0 during the regular season. A quarter final win followed by a dramatic double overtime win in the semi-finals gave Bell its first A Cup appearance in many years.  Although not victorious in the A Cup, the Bell Warriors showed true class throughout 2014 against difficult competition all season and no doubt can build on this success in the future.” ~ Richard Baylin, Mosquito Head Coach.

Pee Wee:  “The Bell Warriors Pee Wee team won the Western Conference Champions for the fourth time in the past five years.  On the offensive side of the ball, QB James Keenan (Stittsville) led our team all year leading the Warriors to the A-Cup final for the 4th time since 2010.  Receivers Eric Conley (Ottawa) and Josh Streng (Carleton Place) were supported with the determined running of Andrew Fullerton (Stittsville).  Defenesively, Malik Yusof was a standout linebacker while Steven Schwartz (Nepean) was a team leader on and off the field for us.  We came across a very tough Cumberland Panthers in the final and came up a little short but we couldn’t be prouder of our boys and the Warriors for their great season.” ~ Michael Polito, Pee Wee Head Coach and Warrior VP.

Bantam:  “Our season was marred by some unfortunate injuries which gave a lot of players more opportunity to get more playing time this season.  In the long run, this ended up making us a better team and this was never more evident than in our final two sudden-death games.  In the Chorney Conference Semi-Final, we beat the Kanata Knights 38-0 (a team we had previously lost to earlier in the year) and in the final, we met the South Ottawa Mustangs who we’d also lost to in week 2.  Our Warriors were determined to come away with a different outcome and that’s exactly what they did with a convincing win.  Dilan Parry (North Gower) came back to lead our scoring while Jack Rabb (Richmond) came away with the Offensive Player of the Game.  Andrew Beattie (Richmond) and Ross Polito (Stittsville) both led our dominant defense.” ~ Paul Stewart, Bantam Head Coach and Bell Warrior President.
