YES! YES! YES! NORSEMEN Win it All!!!!

The Bel-Air Norsemen are the 2015 NCAFA Midget Champions!!!

The Championship was a rematch to avenge the two earlier games that the Norsemen had lost against the Nepean Eagles during the regular season.  Although standout receivers Dilan Parry and Malcolm Turgeon (both Warrior alumni) were unable to play, the Norsemen came committed and were rewarded with an impressive 11-6 win.

The Norsemen controlled the ball throughout the first half but weren’t able to finish until midway through the 2nd quarter on a one yard plunge by Norsemen Captain and QB Quinn Stewart (Warriors alumni) to put the Norsemen up 7-0.  Quinn Stewart went down with an injury soon after the score, and although he was able to stay in the game as a wide receiver, back-up QB Jack Rabb (also a Warrior alumni) had to take the majority of the snaps for the rest of the game.

In the third quarter, wide receiver and place kicker Tyler Gray added insurance with a missed field goal for a point and another successful field goal in the fourth to put the Norsemen up 11-0.  The Eagles were able to get 1 TD in the final minutes of the game on a long bomb but it wasn’t enough against the stifling Norsemen team.  Head Coach Tony Violante said after the game that, “We came to conquer and we dominated in every facet of the game.

Our Tykes and Mosquito clubs didn’t make it to the finals but we have to start off by congratulating head coaches Brian Patterson (Tyke) and Richard Baylin (Mosquito) for instilling a love for our great sport and building the foundation for the continued growth of our Club.  We can’t thank you and your volunteers enough! THANK YOU!!!

norsemen vs eaglesThe Warriors Bantams (15-16 year olds) take the field on Halloween to face the West Carleton Wolverines.  The Wolverines are a rugged, hard-hitting club so this will be a battle until the final whistle.  Our Warriors will be looking to build on last weekend’s dominant win over the Bengals and carry their momentum to best the Wolverines who won in a lop-sided battle earlier this year. Best of luck Warriors!

wrs vs WC2Our final Warrior team in Championship Week is our Pee Wee team led by head coach Michael Polito.  Mike’s Pee Wees are a well-balanced, skilled team that will need to bring all they have to come home with a victory over the undefeated Cumberland Panthers.  We know this will be a showcase game for our league that, regardless of the outcome, will be a magnificent game. Go get ’em Mike!

wrs vs panthers2Lots to celebrate Warriors but don’t be afraid to show our young Warriors your support.  Cheer Loud.  Cheer Proud. LET’S GO WARRIORS! #Warriors4Life

Queensway Closure – Make Alternate Travel Plans

If you are planning on going to either the Tyke or Bantam semi-final games this Saturday (both at Garneau High School), know that the Queensway will be closed all weekend both ways.

YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE!!!  (Alternate Map)

Inaugural HOMECOMING DAY a Big Hit

The Bell Warriors Football Club are celebrating our Diamond Anniversary this year and used the occasion to introduce our inaugural Homecoming Day.  “60 Years of giving back to our community by mentoring our youth is quite an accomplishment“, observed Warriors President Paul Stewart.

All four Warriors tackle teams competed against the Rideau Redblacks (of Brockville) on the new turf field at the University of Ottawa Lees Campus Sunday, October 4th.  It gave a chance for Warrior friends and families to celebrate this great milestone and what better way to do that than by cheering on our young Warrior teams.  As part of the special day, the Warriors raffled off a pair of Sens tickets at each game.  These had been very generously donated by former Warrior player and coach Chris Hyndman.  Collections were taken throughout the day in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month with close to $200 being raised for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

At half time of the 3rd game, the Pee Wee game, a special presentation was made by City of Ottawa College Ward Councillor Rick Chiarelli of a signed Ottawa REDBLACKS Justin Phillips jersey.  The jersey was given with the intent that it would be used to help raise badly-needed funds for the Warriors football program.  Justin Phillips is a Warrior Alumni himself which gives added significance to the presentation of his signed jersey.  Mayor Jim Watson sent his best regards stating, “I want to convey my best wishes to the Bell Warriors Football Club for a successful diamond anniversary year.” (Mayor Jim Watson’s entire message)

Even Ottawa REDBLACKS mascot BIG JOE got into our Plinko game. We think he won a canteen treat.

Our tykes competed in a nail-biter which ended up with a 6-0 loss.  Our Mosquitos came out with an impressive 24-6 win.  Our Pee Wees continued their undefeated season with a very convincing 64-0 win.  This clinched the NCAFA Western Conference Championship for the 2nd straight year and 5th time in the past 6 years!  Our Bantams fought a tough battle and were leading 10-8 at the half against a massive Rideau team.  A blocked field goal that led to a Rideau touchdown proved to be the difference in a disappointing 22-10 Warriors Bantam loss.  Wins and losses aside, it was a fantastic fall day of competition, sportsmanship and team work.

What a fantastic facility and big thanks to Stephane Tessier for being our M.C. and DJ today.
