Warriors Alum DANIEL BRIERE Commits

March 4, 2020/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Huge CONGRATULATIONS to Daniel Briere who has just committed with the U of Ottawa GEE GEES.  Daniel was the most humble, coachable, pleasant but driven, competitive, and focused player our coaches could ever ask for.  Daniel got it.  He led with his actions which led him to his many successes as a Warrior and this exciting announcement.

Chili Fundraiser was HOT!

November 17, 2019/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Now was it CHILI or was it HOT?  Well it was a little of both!

Whiprsnapr Brewing Co. hosted a very-well timed Chili Contest Fundraiser this past Sunday with all funds raised going to our Bell Warriors.  We packed their brewery and tasted away.  Some were savoury.  Some were spicy.  One even tasted like a black forest chocolate cherry chili and it was oddly amazing.  We all sampled some of their many craft-brewed beer (which is top notch) and enjoyed watching the CFL Grey Cup semi-finals on their big screen.  It was perfect!

Big thank you to Ian McMartin of Whiprsnapr Brewing Co. and our very own Keith Stuart (Warriors Mosquito Head Coach) for setting up this great day.  We also took home some funds to help support our young Warriors.  Football is all about having a passion for life and acting with distinction.  Our friends at Whiprsnapr and Keith and his family clearly get that.  THANK YOU!

Oh yes… … CONGRATS to AVERY STUART, a fearless Mosquito Warriors player, who (with a little help from his Grandma) was selected as the Honourable Mention Champion Chili contestant.  This may have to be an annual event (if I have anything to say about this)!

L to R: Paul Stewart (President) and Keith Stuart (Mosquito Head Coach & Fundraiser Organizer)

Avery Stuart (Mosquito Warriors Captain) was named the Hon. Men. Chili Contest Champion.

A Terrible Loss of a True Warrior

September 26, 2019/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

As most of you may have heard already, our community lost a caring friend this week Zachary Statham-Souliere. For so many of us, you will want Zach to he remembered for the bonds he forged with his friends year after year playing Warriors football and how his parents and extended family gave everything they had to his teams and our club to be sure Zach had fond and lasting memories.

The family is asking that everyone please respect their privacy to give them time for reflection in their time of grief. On behalf of our Warriors family, however, it is important for the entire Statham-Souliere family to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers. Our very sincerest condolences.

2018 Head Coaches Are Announced

January 15, 2018/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

GO WARRIORS!!!

It is easy to feel exhilarated and immensely satisfied with the direction the club will be taking this year.   We have 4 great men that have all stepped up to continue our club’s long and great legacy.  We hand-chose each of them to take on this important responsibility and that’s because we have faith that no one would be better suited for the jobs.

It is with absolute pride that we announce that Brian Patterson will be returning as our Tyke Head Coach.  This will be Coach Brian’s 16th year coaching with our club and again this year, there is no one involved with the club that didn’t have Coach Brian coach one of their children at one time or another.  He’s a true gem!

At Mosquito, grizzled veteran Pat Kilmartin brings his 22 years of coaching experience to continue mentoring our players as our Mosquito Head Coach.  Pat is respected as a passionate, caring and motivational coach that lives to build confidence and who truly admires spirit, dedication, responsibility ant team spirit.   Thank you Coach Pat!

Our Pee Wee Head Coach is going to be Paul Gowans who, way back when, was a Warriors player and Warriors’ Coach in an earlier life.  Coach Paul has coached football for 28 years and is respected throughout the football community as an exceptional coach, leader and mentor.  He has had numerous coaching roles at much higher levels and currently is a dedicated athletics teacher at South Carleton High School.   On a editorial note:  he coached both of my boys at South Carleton H.S. when they still had a football program and on every level, he earned my respect and admiration.  Paul is back and we couldn’t be happier with that!

Last but certainly not least is our new Bantam Head Coach Richard Baylin which has done nothing but win as a previous Head Coach at both Mosquito and Pee Wee.  Coach Rich does it with such a positive, constructive and measured demeanour that he attracts families to our program.  He sets the tone for what our program aspires to be.  He’s a true gentleman that happens to have a passion for mentoring youth and football.  What a perfect role model for our program, families and players!  Thanks Coach Rich for stepping up.

Join us in congratulating these experienced men on stepping up to steer this year’s tackle programs.  The Warriors will be playing in our 63rd year and we are so excited to have these four coaches leading the way.  THANK YOU GENTLEMEN!!!

Banquet & Silent Auctions – Warriors Celebrate

January 14, 2018/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

What a day of celebrations the Warriors had.  Our annual Team Banquets is so much more than just an award ceremony (but it is important to celebrate excellence too).  Our Club has a very simple recipe to succeed that we embrace globally. …and that is……to work hard to challenge ourselves, to always strive to learn from our mistakes, to never get discouraged, to strive to grow and as importantly, realize that our actions impact those around us.  If you follow our simple recipe, your actions will not only inevitably lead to your success, they will lead to successes of all your teammates who you inspire and motivate.   There is lots to celebrate when we do that and ultimately, this is what our Warriors celebrated Saturday at our day long of hosting of two annual Team Banquets.

In conjunction with our Banquets, the Warriors hosted two Silent Auctions. Our 6th annual fundraisers represent a labour of love that has become a huge fundraiser for the Club …. and it’s become a lot of fun too.  A big THANK YOU to all of our Donors:

For all of our volunteers that helped with the setup, administration and tear down of the auctions, THANK YOU.  Your hard work helped us raise a record $6,500 for our Warriors!

Of course the two events are also a celebration of our players that truly excelled this year.  To all of our players that competed this year, congratulations on dedicating yourselves the Warriors Way.  We hope you had an excellent experience with your Warriors family and for those that were fortunate enough to be major award winners this year, NICE JOB SETTING THE TONE FOR YOUR TEAM.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON AND OFF THE FIELD!  The 2017 Major Award Winners were:

Warriors Shine Off The Field Too

November 26, 2017/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

The Ottawa REDBLACKS reached out yesterday afternoon to line-up volunteers to help at today’s 105th Grey Cup to manage snow and ice.  No pay.  No glory.  Definitely some inconvenience and a 10 hour shift outside where they would more than likely be half frozen when they are done.

We reached out to our Warriors alumni for 16-21 year old volunteers and we just want to say how proud we are (but not surprised) of the boys who stepped up to volunteer to help work at today’s Grey Cup.  These young men led by example on the field when they were with us and continue to now in their community as Warriors alumni.  THANK YOU to Ryan Pacholik, Nick Simms, Demian Gonzalez, Shayne Forsyth, and Kyle Waucaush.

Football is all about community; being selfless; acting on a need; pitching in; and resolve to lead by example.  These 5 Warriors Alumni clearly get that.  THANKS LADS!!! #Warriors4Life

LIQUIDGYM BECOMES WARRIORS NEWEST GOLD SPONSOR

The Bell Warriors Football Club and LiquidGym Rehab and Training Centre of Bells Corners, Ottawa are pleased to announce a partnership for the 2017 football season.  The Warriors are a non-profit football club based in the communities of Crystal Beach, Bayshore, Bells Corners, Richmond, Stittsville and Munster.  For 62 years, the Warriors have been offering assorted football programs for boys and girls ages 7-23.

“The Warriors are excited to announce our new partnership with LiquidGym.  We supply all of our players’ equipment and dedicate a ton of time to ensure we offer youth programs that are rewarding and fun.  This takes energy, time and commitment.  It also takes willing partners in our community to help us meet our key mandate which is to keep our great sport affordable and accessible to all.  LiquidGym is stepping up to become our newest Gold Sponsor and we are glad to expose our active Warriors families to LiquidGym’s expansive facility and array of extensive services.” – Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors Football President

“LiquidGym is thrilled to partner with the Warriors for the up-coming season. We like to be involved with the community and share the same values as the Warriors.  The Warriors have a committed team of leaders to assist the area youth in developing skills that will be useful on and off the field and we are happy to support their work. LiquidGym welcomes players and their families to explore our facility and our services as we work to improve your health and performance. We wish the Warriors best of luck for the up-coming season and look forward to a long and committed partnership with the club.” – Karen Snyder, CEO, LiquidGym

“The Warriors share a similar outlook with LiquidGym.  We both believe strongly in the importance of healthy lifestyles and the value sports teams can play in the development of our youth.  Football is the ultimate team sport.  It is affordable and encourages hard work, commitment, responsibility, dedication but most importantly, it is fun.  The Warriors couldn’t do what we do without the generous support of companies like LiquidGym.” – Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors Football President

Flag Football is Back for 2017!!!

January 22, 2017/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

The Warriors are excited to announce that we are reintroducing our immensely successful Spring Flag Football Program in May-June 2017!  For boys ages 7-13, this is a friendly introduction to football for new players and a challenging experience for experienced players.

The program will be running for 6 weeks in May-June at Bell High School (Nepean) on Saturday mornings.  Warriors alumni Charlie Keenan will be the Flag Football Program Coordinator.  Charlie was a tremendous athlete during his time with the Warriors and he now wants to give back to his community by taking on our Flag Program.  “Both my boys played in the program years ago and we became a Warriors family largely due to our experience with the program close to 15 years ago.  Kids should be running around, competing, throwing, catching and having fun.  That’s what Flag Football is all about.  Our Club is really excited to have Charlie stepping up to reintroduce this great Spring activity” ~ Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors President.

Long-Time Warrior Tim Sheahan receives honour!

March 2, 2016/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Long-time Warrior volunteer, coach and Executive member Tim Sheahan was honoured today with his Community Builder Award at Ottawa City Hall.

United Way Ottawa honours Ottawa’s outstanding volunteers through its Community Builder Award program — those organizations, partnerships, agencies, neighbourhood groups and individuals who work tirelessly, passionately and collaboratively to make Ottawa a better place in which to live, work and raise a family.

In addition to the winners’ awards, their names are inscribed on the Wall of Inspiration.  Located in Jean Pigott Hall at Ottawa City Hall, the Wall of Inspiration is a visible reminder to residents and visitors of the enduring commitment that these individuals and organizations have made to Ottawa. “The Wall of Inspiration is about bringing together outstanding volunteers and celebrating the positive imprint their work has left on our community. Beyond our wishes to recognize their valuable work, we also want to inspire the rest of the community to become involved and play their own role in making Ottawa a stronger community,” says Michael Allen, President and CEO, United Way Ottawa.

2015 United Way Community Builder Awards Ceremony at the Hall of Inspiration in Jean Pigott Hall at Ottawa City Hall.

‘Coach Tim’, 3rd from the right in the above picture, wanted to sum up the experience and here are his words of observation and thanks:  “The Program started exactly on time at 12:00 noon, unlike most of our practices.  Anyway, Mayor Jim Watson was a guest speaker as well as a Rabbi Reuven Bulka, United Way CEO & President Michael Allen and reprentatives from Scotia Bank (the sponsor of today’s event ).  The gentleman that presented me with my plaque last year, Waub Rice,  was the M.C. for today’s event .  It started with Waub’s going through a typical dissertation of who the type of people are that are given community awards.  He then began to recall the story of about presenting me with my award last year at our Winter Workouts at the Oz Dome.  He said that it was a big secret, and that Ann, Kyle and Brendan (Tim’s family) showed up in the middle of our Warriors practice secretly,  I remember it like it was yesterday.  I really didn’t clue in that day that the award was for me until he said my name. As I was sitting there today, I was just as surprised that he was telling the story about my award.  I was asked to stand up and be recognized and I gave a thankful wave. I falsely assumed that they would give a little story about each of the recipients.  Right after acknowledging me, they quickly went to a video presentation for Bryan Murray (The Community Builder of the Year).  After that, each recipient was called forward to take a group photo around the 2015 plaque on the wall.  I was absolutely blown away that I would be included as part of today’s program and quite flattered… I want to thank all, who are involved with Bell Warriors Football.  We don’t do what we do to be recognized.  We do it because we have something to give and we love being part of a club/organization that really cares about the sport and those playing it.  I couldn’t help but reflect on these past 11 years and wonder how life could have been very different for me, and my family, if my boys hadn’t found The Bell Warriors.  I am thankful for the 11 years of association with the club, and very thankful for the many relationships that I , and my family , have forged.  Warriors for Life!” ~ Tim Sheahan.

UNREAL – Stolen Game Pants Returned!

August 19, 2015/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Joe Papalia went out this morning for an early trip to the store. What he found on his return blew him away. In his drive way was a Riddell bag that he hadn’t seen before he left. Sure enough it was the same bag that had been stolen from his yard 6 days earlier! ….and in it were all of the missing stolen Warrior game pants.

Check out some of this news coverage for more of this amazing story.

This is the case of the good that can come of a lot of good people getting engaged.  The outrage that followed the senseless theft woke up Ottawans and the outreach and support was amazing.  There is no question that the return of the stolen pants was 100% due to the awesome support of our community and for that, the Warriors want to say THANK YOU ALL!!!!
