BINARY FORTRESS SOFTWARE SPONSOR PLAYERS IN NEED

September 12, 2021/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

When our club and players are in need, inevitably our parents recognize our challenges and choose to act.  This is exactly what Jon Tackabury President and Owner of Binary Fortress Software did by partnering with the Bell Warriors to become a Gold Sponsor of the 2021 Bell Warriors Tackle Football Program.

“We believe that all children should have the opportunity to participate in sports regardless of economic background. We hope that this donation will help”, stated owner Jon Tackabury.

“With less than 45% of our budget being covered annually by player fees, our non-profit football club is always running on a tight budget.  When we do find our selves with a small surplus, it is easily allotted to our expansive field and player equipment budget.  The Bell Warriors supply all of the player and field equipment other than cleats.  It is a daunting challenge making ends meet at the best of times.  The same can be said for many of our families.  We know it can be tough raising a young family financially and the Bell Warriors are committed to ensure that this doesn’t hold back anyone from joining our sport and Warriors family.  It takes hard work but it also takes like-minded partners like Binary Fortress Software to make it this a reality.” outlines Warriors President Paul Stewart.

This sponsorship will be vital to ensure we can move forward with the 2022 Tackle Football season with funds that will be targeted to keep our sport affordable and accessible for all financially.  “We cannot thank Jon and his wife Andrea Chamberlain enough for their thoughtful generousity and support of our families and players in need.  Football is all about setting an example and this is an example of caring that we can all look to with admiration and appreciation”, concludes President Stewart.

Our newest GOLD SPONSORS BINARY FORTRESS SOFTWARE with the owner Jon Tackabury and his family Andrea Chamberlain, Holden #16, sister Sam and Warriors President Paul Stewart

Inaugural Mosquito 9v9 season crowns WARRIORS!

November 3, 2019/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

NCAFA Championship week is always an exciting time of the year with the largest amateur football association showcasing the best-of-the best 8 through 18 year olds from Eastern Ontario and now Western Quebec.  Our Bantam team were hindered with some untimely injuries.  They battled hard in their B-Cup semi losing in a very tight finish to the Gloucester South Raiders 14.12.  Our very young inexperienced Pee Wee team continued to gel and improve as the season went on.  They saw themselves earn a spot vs the Gatineau Vikings in the C-Cup Championship losing in the final minute 26-22 in a heart breaker.  The Warriors Tykes 6v6 also saw themselves in their C-Cup Championship and in the last 30 seconds of the game, they gave up an untimely TD to the South Ottawa Mustangs which gave the Mustangs a 38-34 win.

Our Mosquito team ended up playing on A-Cup Sunday vs the #1 ranked Bel-Air Lions.  They had faced the Lions twice during the regular season and lost both games.   On that chilly Sunday morning however, our relentless Warriors Mosquitos were not to be denied.  This was an inaugural 9v9 format this year which will continue going forward on the basis of this year’s successful launch.  The Lions played our Warriors tough but in the end, it was not enough and our Warriors were lifting the A-Cup Championship trophy!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Pat Kilmartin who laid the foundation for the big win and to Head Coach Keith Stuart, DC Coach Jon Landon and all of our volunteers, parents and awesome players!!!

Stittsville Volunteer Group of the Year Award

June 11, 2019/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Football isn’t about ‘pats on the  back‘ for a job well done.   Football is about acting with distinction and doing a job well that needs to be done.  It is no different in running a community football program.  “We value setting a selfless example for our youth and doing good in our community”, states Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors President.

Having said all of that, it is an honour for our non-profit football club to be recognized in our community for the good work we have done for the past 64 years and continue to do night in and night out.  At a ceremony held last night at the CARDELREC-Goulbourn Centre, the Warriors were awarded with their nomination for the Volunteer Group of the Year.  On hand on behalf of the Warriors was Warriors VP of Finance Dan Crabtree and VP of Administration Christine Lavigne.

In addition to hosting our three distinct football programs for boys and girls, the Warriors give back to our Warriors players in the form of bursaries and scholarships.  The Warriors also plan a series of events to raise monies for our operations; and to expose youth to living an active lifestyle while playing our great sport of football:

  • Annually, the Warriors offer two $1,000 post-secondary scholarships to Warriors alumni.  Applications are judged on academics, the alumni’s Warriors experience, and their community involvement
    • 14 Stittsville residents have won scholarships in the past decade: Andrew Fullerton (’18), Stefano Napolitano (’13 and ’17), Kurtis Schaefer (’16), Sean Stoqua (’15), Charles Keenan (’14), Mitchell Henselwood (’14), Bran Hinton (’13), David Sabourin (’11 and ’12), Sam Sabourin (’10 and ’12), Mike Wierich (’11), and Richard Hobbs (’10)
    • $38,000 has been rewarded to date since the launch of our scholarship program
    • The Bell Warriors are proud to support our young players on and off the field
  • Annually, post-secondary bursaries are also made available to our Bantam and Midget aged Tackle football players and a graduating Girl’s Touch Football program player ($500 each)
  • For 23 years, the Warriors host an annual Bell Warriors Golf Tournament (hosted at the Amberwood Village Golf and Country Club, Stittsville)
  • Volunteer Appreciation Night:  hosted annually at The ALE Lounge & Eatery, Stittsville
  • Hosted numerous Warriors Days which were free to expose youth in Stittsville to football
  • Hosted free QB clinics (in Stittsville) in the Winter in 2018
  • Host Winter Workouts annually to introduce youth of Stittsville to football
  • Host two annual banquets and awards ceremonies in Stittsville
  • Host our Bell Warriors AGM in Stittsville annually
  • Partner to offer region-wide Tyke & Mosquito jamborees each August for Stittsville youth
  • Partner to offer region-wide All-Star teams to compete for the Eastern Ontario – Western Quebec Inter-Provincial championship for Stittsville youth
  • Offer Inter-Provincial cross-over games for our Bantam and Midget aged tackle football players of Stittsville
  • If boys & girls want to play football in Stittsville, then the Bell Warriors Football Club are their team for affordable & accessible non-contact and tackle football programs

2018 Head Coaches Are Announced

January 15, 2018/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

GO WARRIORS!!!

It is easy to feel exhilarated and immensely satisfied with the direction the club will be taking this year.   We have 4 great men that have all stepped up to continue our club’s long and great legacy.  We hand-chose each of them to take on this important responsibility and that’s because we have faith that no one would be better suited for the jobs.

It is with absolute pride that we announce that Brian Patterson will be returning as our Tyke Head Coach.  This will be Coach Brian’s 16th year coaching with our club and again this year, there is no one involved with the club that didn’t have Coach Brian coach one of their children at one time or another.  He’s a true gem!

At Mosquito, grizzled veteran Pat Kilmartin brings his 22 years of coaching experience to continue mentoring our players as our Mosquito Head Coach.  Pat is respected as a passionate, caring and motivational coach that lives to build confidence and who truly admires spirit, dedication, responsibility ant team spirit.   Thank you Coach Pat!

Our Pee Wee Head Coach is going to be Paul Gowans who, way back when, was a Warriors player and Warriors’ Coach in an earlier life.  Coach Paul has coached football for 28 years and is respected throughout the football community as an exceptional coach, leader and mentor.  He has had numerous coaching roles at much higher levels and currently is a dedicated athletics teacher at South Carleton High School.   On a editorial note:  he coached both of my boys at South Carleton H.S. when they still had a football program and on every level, he earned my respect and admiration.  Paul is back and we couldn’t be happier with that!

Last but certainly not least is our new Bantam Head Coach Richard Baylin which has done nothing but win as a previous Head Coach at both Mosquito and Pee Wee.  Coach Rich does it with such a positive, constructive and measured demeanour that he attracts families to our program.  He sets the tone for what our program aspires to be.  He’s a true gentleman that happens to have a passion for mentoring youth and football.  What a perfect role model for our program, families and players!  Thanks Coach Rich for stepping up.

Join us in congratulating these experienced men on stepping up to steer this year’s tackle programs.  The Warriors will be playing in our 63rd year and we are so excited to have these four coaches leading the way.  THANK YOU GENTLEMEN!!!

Banquet & Silent Auctions – Warriors Celebrate

January 14, 2018/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

What a day of celebrations the Warriors had.  Our annual Team Banquets is so much more than just an award ceremony (but it is important to celebrate excellence too).  Our Club has a very simple recipe to succeed that we embrace globally. …and that is……to work hard to challenge ourselves, to always strive to learn from our mistakes, to never get discouraged, to strive to grow and as importantly, realize that our actions impact those around us.  If you follow our simple recipe, your actions will not only inevitably lead to your success, they will lead to successes of all your teammates who you inspire and motivate.   There is lots to celebrate when we do that and ultimately, this is what our Warriors celebrated Saturday at our day long of hosting of two annual Team Banquets.

In conjunction with our Banquets, the Warriors hosted two Silent Auctions. Our 6th annual fundraisers represent a labour of love that has become a huge fundraiser for the Club …. and it’s become a lot of fun too.  A big THANK YOU to all of our Donors:

For all of our volunteers that helped with the setup, administration and tear down of the auctions, THANK YOU.  Your hard work helped us raise a record $6,500 for our Warriors!

Of course the two events are also a celebration of our players that truly excelled this year.  To all of our players that competed this year, congratulations on dedicating yourselves the Warriors Way.  We hope you had an excellent experience with your Warriors family and for those that were fortunate enough to be major award winners this year, NICE JOB SETTING THE TONE FOR YOUR TEAM.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON AND OFF THE FIELD!  The 2017 Major Award Winners were:

Stefano Napolitano #PayItForward #ClassAct

October 8, 2017/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

You’ll likely remember our story about this year’s 2X Bell Warriors Jim Wagdin Scholarship winner Stefano Napolitano.  We finally were able to meet up with Stefano at a recent Bell Warriors game.  He was about to go into his last game ever with the Carleton Ravens and he talked of his football journey from his days at Tyke with the Warriors to his final year with the CIS Ravens club.

Stefano certainly exemplifies everything we look for in our Warriors alumni and he led by example again this day.  As we presented Stefano with his scholarship cheque, he produced a cheque of his own to give back to the Warriors.  The cheque, which is held by our President, was to go to our fund for players who are financially challenged and have difficulty paying their player fees.   Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to announce that Stefano Napolitano is our most recent Friend of the Warriors Sponsor!

Picctured L to R: Paul Stewart (Bell Warriors President); Veronica Papalia (Bantam Team Manager); Joe Papalia (Bantam DC) and our newest Friend of the Warriors Sponsor Stefano Napolitano.

“I’ve known Stefano since he was a very young man.  He played ball with one of my boys and I have never known him to be anything but thoughtful, generous, respectful and giving of his time.   The fact that he has now given back with his own money to our players in need says so much of the man he has become.  He is a truly class act” ~ summarizes Paul Stewart (Bell Warriors President).

10 Years but worth the wait – FLAG IS BACK!

May 27, 2017/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

It’s been over a decade since the Warriors hosted their successful Spring Flag Football Program but it’s back and with great enthusiasm! “I wouldn’t have been involved with the club if it wasn’t for flag nor would my past DC Terry Schaefer or current OC  and Club VP Tim Sheahan.  It was a very important program to get youth introduced into our great sport back then.  Unfortunately over time, we lost some key volunteers and it fell by the wayside”, states Paul Stewart, Warriors President

This past winter Charlie Keenan reached out to the Warriors.  Charlie is attending Queens University but had some time that he wanted to dedicate to giving back to his old club.  Charlie not only started playing football with our flag program but he became one of the very best players our club had at the time.  “Charlie was athletic, ultra-intelligent and driven”, states Stewart.  “I had the fortune to coach Charlie and when he chose to reach out to help our club, I was determined to find him a job.  Together we soon landed on Charlie being an instrumental volunteer to re-introduce our Spring Flag Football Program.”

The league started Saturday morning and fielded 7 full teams ages 7-13 with over 60 players.   Another key component of the re-launch was the use of Warriors alumni as coaches and referees for the program “We couldn’t be happier with the re-launch.   We volunteer to set an example for our youth and to see Charlie and so many Warriors alumni return to do the same is simply amazing”, concludes Stewart.

Tyke players Avery Stuart (left) and Louis Turpin are reunited week 1 of the Warriors 2017 Spring Flag Football Program. They were buds last year and will be leaders on our Tyke Tackle Football team this year.

Wariors Alumni Jack Rabb is one many ex-Warriors that have returned to coach our program. Gotta luv the way our Warriors are giving back! Class Act Jack!

THANKS CHARLIE KEENAN for taking on the task and making our re-launch of our Spring Flag Football Program a resounding success!
