UNREAL – Stolen Game Pants Returned!

August 19, 2015/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Joe Papalia went out this morning for an early trip to the store. What he found on his return blew him away. In his drive way was a Riddell bag that he hadn’t seen before he left. Sure enough it was the same bag that had been stolen from his yard 6 days earlier! ….and in it were all of the missing stolen Warrior game pants.

Check out some of this news coverage for more of this amazing story.

This is the case of the good that can come of a lot of good people getting engaged.  The outrage that followed the senseless theft woke up Ottawans and the outreach and support was amazing.  There is no question that the return of the stolen pants was 100% due to the awesome support of our community and for that, the Warriors want to say THANK YOU ALL!!!!

Game Pants Stolen from Manager’s Car

August 16, 2015/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Bell Warriors game pants were stolen from Veronica Papalia’s (Bantam team manager) car Thursday night.

GAME PANTS STOLEN FROM THE BELL WARRIORS (Video CTV Story)

OTTAWA SUN COVERAGE: Bells Corners football team pantsed by thief

The game pants are valued at about $1500 to the Bell Warriors Football club.  For the 15 and 16-year-old players , it means they’ll have to play like a team despite the fact they won’t look like one.   They will be wearing old practice pants until the replacement pants arrive.

Team manager Veronica Papalia was shocked to discover the equipment bags open in her car Friday morning and one bag missing.  ‘This is what we are talking about,’ says Papalia, as she holds up a medium-sized pair of pants, ‘game pants; roughly 30 pairs of large to 3XL pants were taken.’   While the jerseys were messed up, the bag they were in was too heavy to carry. Papalia figures thieves made off with what they could after breaking into another car across the street.

‘It’s just devastating that a club that works so hard based on donations and volunteers has to endure this loss to start our season off,’ says Papalia.  The Bell Warriors are a Bantam level team, a competitive football league in an area with many low-income households.  The loss is tough, especially with their first game this Friday.  Jake Papalia is 13 years old and plays at the Pee Wee level with the Warriors,  ‘I don’t know what a person like that would want with football pants,’ he says, ‘and the coaches just preach playing like a team and now they won’t look like a team when they’re playing on Friday.’   (credit to Joanne Schnurr, CTV Ottawa for the story)

FINAL LEAGUE SCHEDULE IS OUT!

August 6, 2015/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

IT’S FINAL! The 2015 NCAFA final schedule is out.  Watch for emails from your team manager, check our Warriors Facebook Events Page and our Warrior Events Calendar Page for all of the details.  On this page, you can see your team’s monthly calendar of events listed conveniently at the bottom of the page.  There is also a short summary of all Warrior events in the right column on the page and of course a monthly calendar at the top.  Click on the highlighted date you are interested in to access all of the Warrior events occurring on that date.

For each event listed, we have a date, duration, team that will be playing, instructions and a map with links.  It’s convenient and easy to use.

HOME GAMES:  A special note for home games –  our club will be responsible to bring and set up the game yard markers, goal post pads  and yard sticks.  We will also be in charge of sticks and timing and we will be hosting a BBQ for the full-day event.  This means food and supply purchases, getting everything to the event, BBQ crews and tear down (tents, bbq’s, tables, supplies, etc….)

We’ll need ALL HANDS ON DECK.  Watch for emails from your team manager and please lend a hand.  BE A WARRIOR VOLUNTEER.  Aside from being our job as hosts, it’s important to reflect well on our sport, our league, our Warrior Club and to set an example for our youth to aspire to!  Remember to bring water, lawn chairs and your Warrior Spirit! Go Warriors! #Warriors4Life
