NCAFA – Changing the Way We Play Non-Contact Football

January 28, 2021/in Uncategorized /by Paul Stewart

(OTTAWA) – The National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) is excited to announce changes to their non-contact programs offered throughout the National Capital region. Building on the great success of its girls touch football program, NCAFA will be transitioning to now offer flag football to both Girls and Boys (ages 8 – 21).  This transition to flag football will provide a new and better opportunity for girls who participate in the non-contact program.  The introduction of the boys flag football program is a wonderful development to the programs offered by NCAFA. Keep your eye on www.ncafa.ca for further updates.

The season is scheduled to run from May through the end of June 2021, while continuing to follow provincial and municipal directives associated with COVID-19.  The safety of players, coaches, referees and families remains paramount while seeking innovative solutions so our valuable sports programs can endure and thrive.

“The introduction of flag football programs for both girls and boys within our participating clubs is a great opportunity for kids to get on the field and experience a great sport.  Whether it be tackle or touch or both, NCAFA has a goal to make sure that every child interested in football has a chance to experience it  – no matter what and we look forward to making this a reality with the continued support of the OSEG Foundation.” said Gawain Harding, President – NCAFA.

Through NCAFA’s continued partnership with the OSEG Foundation, “Our huddle includes everyone” remains a mission at the forefront of our objectives  to ensure that all players have the opportunity on the play either contact or non-contact football on the field, with the aim to build not only essential football skills but also develop life skills and friendships for years to come.  The league encourages sportsmanship on and off the field, and provides fun and exciting competition while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle for Ottawa youth.

National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) – A 66-year-old league and counting, NCAFA is the oldest and largest youth football league in the Ontario Football Alliance. With over 2200 players from Ottawa and the surrounding areas, NCAFA is one of the most inclusive leagues, providing opportunities to kids from the ages of 8 – 21 to learn the game of football in all formats (contact and non-contact).

OSEG Foundation – The OSEG Foundation goal is to ensure all children and youth in our community have the opportunity to play, learn and develop through sports.  At the OSEG Foundation, we believe that by sharing our passion for sports through structured youth development programs, kids will have an opportunity to excel and reach their full potential.  The OSEG Foundation will be a catalyst for social change by leveraging the power of sport to improve the lives of children and youth.

Warriors Partners Step Up

January 27, 2021/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

We are sure that you are all well aware, the pandemic has had a dramatic impact in our community.  As individuals, parents, businesses, and in the case of non-profits like the Bell Warriors Football Club, we are all affected in one way or another.   Although we are hopeful to be in a position to offer football programs in the coming year, we experienced huge financial shortfalls in 2020.

Two of our long-time sponsors recognized our plight and stepped up to lend a hand to ensure we could keep our 66-year-old amateur youth football club going through this unprecedented time.  The Warriors supply all of the required equipment for all of our players and it is stored in climate-controlled facilities at Primo Self Storage.  Chris Milosek, the President of Primo Developments Inc., has been a valued partner with the Warriors for more than 15 years.  They donated a trailer to the club to store and carry our promotional items and game-day canteen supplies in 2013.  They have sponsored player fees in the past, our most recent Bantam Leadership Award, and this summer, they chose to subsidize the storage of our equipment by more than $5,000.

Most recently, our friends and partners at The ALE, Amberwood Lounge and Eatery, in Stittsville framed a Super Bowl Take Out Special Offer with a portion of the sales going to support our Bell Warriors Football Club!  The ALE General Manager Sarah St. Michael and Assistant General Manager Ben O’Neill have been integral partners with the Warriors over the years hosting our annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser, our Warriors Team Banquets and Silent Auctions, our Warriors Volunteer Appreciation Night, and Warriors AGM.   This will be the second year that they have hosted this special offer fundraiser for our club.  LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SPECIAL SUPER BOWL TAKE OUT OFFER.

Our fees normally only cover approximately 45% of our budget so we always have work to do to ensure we find caring, supportive partners to help us continue to make our sport affordable and accessible.  The ALE and Primo Self Storage have been amongst those partners and in times like these, the meaning of their support becomes even more important and more appreciated.

The Bell Warriors Football Club stands for RESPECT-RESPONSIBILITY-DIGNITY-FITNESS-GENEROUSITY-LEADERSHIP.  Since 1955, the Bell Warriors Football Club has offered football programs for boys and girls ages 8-23 in the communities of Britannia, Bayshore, Bells Corners, Richmond, Munster and Stittsville.   For more information about the Bell Warriors program, email president@bellwarriors.ca or check out their website at www.bellwarriors.ca.
