2018 Head Coaches Are Announced

GO WARRIORS!!!

It is easy to feel exhilarated and immensely satisfied with the direction the club will be taking this year.   We have 4 great men that have all stepped up to continue our club’s long and great legacy.  We hand-chose each of them to take on this important responsibility and that’s because we have faith that no one would be better suited for the jobs.

It is with absolute pride that we announce that Brian Patterson will be returning as our Tyke Head Coach.  This will be Coach Brian’s 16th year coaching with our club and again this year, there is no one involved with the club that didn’t have Coach Brian coach one of their children at one time or another.  He’s a true gem!

At Mosquito, grizzled veteran Pat Kilmartin brings his 22 years of coaching experience to continue mentoring our players as our Mosquito Head Coach.  Pat is respected as a passionate, caring and motivational coach that lives to build confidence and who truly admires spirit, dedication, responsibility ant team spirit.   Thank you Coach Pat!

Our Pee Wee Head Coach is going to be Paul Gowans who, way back when, was a Warriors player and Warriors’ Coach in an earlier life.  Coach Paul has coached football for 28 years and is respected throughout the football community as an exceptional coach, leader and mentor.  He has had numerous coaching roles at much higher levels and currently is a dedicated athletics teacher at South Carleton High School.   On a editorial note:  he coached both of my boys at South Carleton H.S. when they still had a football program and on every level, he earned my respect and admiration.  Paul is back and we couldn’t be happier with that!

Last but certainly not least is our new Bantam Head Coach Richard Baylin which has done nothing but win as a previous Head Coach at both Mosquito and Pee Wee.  Coach Rich does it with such a positive, constructive and measured demeanour that he attracts families to our program.  He sets the tone for what our program aspires to be.  He’s a true gentleman that happens to have a passion for mentoring youth and football.  What a perfect role model for our program, families and players!  Thanks Coach Rich for stepping up.

Join us in congratulating these experienced men on stepping up to steer this year’s tackle programs.  The Warriors will be playing in our 63rd year and we are so excited to have these four coaches leading the way.  THANK YOU GENTLEMEN!!!

Banquet & Silent Auctions – Warriors Celebrate

What a day of celebrations the Warriors had.  Our annual Team Banquets is so much more than just an award ceremony (but it is important to celebrate excellence too).  Our Club has a very simple recipe to succeed that we embrace globally. …and that is……to work hard to challenge ourselves, to always strive to learn from our mistakes, to never get discouraged, to strive to grow and as importantly, realize that our actions impact those around us.  If you follow our simple recipe, your actions will not only inevitably lead to your success, they will lead to successes of all your teammates who you inspire and motivate.   There is lots to celebrate when we do that and ultimately, this is what our Warriors celebrated Saturday at our day long of hosting of two annual Team Banquets.

In conjunction with our Banquets, the Warriors hosted two Silent Auctions. Our 6th annual fundraisers represent a labour of love that has become a huge fundraiser for the Club …. and it’s become a lot of fun too.  A big THANK YOU to all of our Donors:

For all of our volunteers that helped with the setup, administration and tear down of the auctions, THANK YOU.  Your hard work helped us raise a record $6,500 for our Warriors!

Of course the two events are also a celebration of our players that truly excelled this year.  To all of our players that competed this year, congratulations on dedicating yourselves the Warriors Way.  We hope you had an excellent experience with your Warriors family and for those that were fortunate enough to be major award winners this year, NICE JOB SETTING THE TONE FOR YOUR TEAM.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON AND OFF THE FIELD!  The 2017 Major Award Winners were:

Warriors Shine Off The Field Too

The Ottawa REDBLACKS reached out yesterday afternoon to line-up volunteers to help at today’s 105th Grey Cup to manage snow and ice.  No pay.  No glory.  Definitely some inconvenience and a 10 hour shift outside where they would more than likely be half frozen when they are done.

We reached out to our Warriors alumni for 16-21 year old volunteers and we just want to say how proud we are (but not surprised) of the boys who stepped up to volunteer to help work at today’s Grey Cup.  These young men led by example on the field when they were with us and continue to now in their community as Warriors alumni.  THANK YOU to Ryan Pacholik, Nick Simms, Demian Gonzalez, Shayne Forsyth, and Kyle Waucaush.

Football is all about community; being selfless; acting on a need; pitching in; and resolve to lead by example.  These 5 Warriors Alumni clearly get that.  THANKS LADS!!! #Warriors4Life

Jacob Baylin – Our Youngest Sponsor Ever!!

Jacob Baylin is a 16 year old young man who lives in Crystal Beach, Nepean.  He played football with the local Bell Warriors Football Club and his youngest brother is still in the program.  For those that have been involved with the club more closely, you’ll know Jacob’s father Rich Baylin who is currently our Pee Wee Head Coach.  This past Saturday, Jacob took the time to present me, Paul Stewart (Bell Warriors Football President), with a cheque to help contribute to our club’s efforts to support players who are financially challenged.   This was his own money that he earned working this past summer.  In making this generous donation, Jacob becomes the newest, and by far the youngest, Friend of the Warriors Sponsor.

L to R: Warriors Alumni and our youngest Warriors Sponsor Jacob Baylin and Paul Stewart (Warriors President)

“Every year, the Warriors have numerous players that just could not afford to play football without some financial support.  It is a key mandate of the Warriors to ensure we do all we can to make our great sport affordable for all.  We rely heavily on community support for our young players and it is truly amazing to see someone as young as Jacob recognize and contribute to the cause.  Jacob was a leader in his playing days with the Warriors and continues to set an example that we could all learn from and aspire to.” – Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors President.

That’s the way to #PayItForward Jacob! THANK YOU!!!

Stefano Napolitano #PayItForward #ClassAct

You’ll likely remember our story about this year’s 2X Bell Warriors Jim Wagdin Scholarship winner Stefano Napolitano.  We finally were able to meet up with Stefano at a recent Bell Warriors game.  He was about to go into his last game ever with the Carleton Ravens and he talked of his football journey from his days at Tyke with the Warriors to his final year with the CIS Ravens club.

Stefano certainly exemplifies everything we look for in our Warriors alumni and he led by example again this day.  As we presented Stefano with his scholarship cheque, he produced a cheque of his own to give back to the Warriors.  The cheque, which is held by our President, was to go to our fund for players who are financially challenged and have difficulty paying their player fees.   Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to announce that Stefano Napolitano is our most recent Friend of the Warriors Sponsor!

Picctured L to R: Paul Stewart (Bell Warriors President); Veronica Papalia (Bantam Team Manager); Joe Papalia (Bantam DC) and our newest Friend of the Warriors Sponsor Stefano Napolitano.

“I’ve known Stefano since he was a very young man.  He played ball with one of my boys and I have never known him to be anything but thoughtful, generous, respectful and giving of his time.   The fact that he has now given back with his own money to our players in need says so much of the man he has become.  He is a truly class act” ~ summarizes Paul Stewart (Bell Warriors President).

REDBLACKS Overdeliver Again!

We are SO LUCKY to have the Ottawa REDBLACKS in our community and ultimately, in our lives.  The REDBLACKS joined our Warriors at practise tonight at Bell H.S.  and starting D-lineman Zack Evans and Ettore Lattanzio over-delivered.

We started the two CFL stars down with our Tyke team (ages 7-9) to encourage our youngest level’s players.  Tyke is an introductory developmental level to football and making sure they are having fun playing football is Rule #1.  Both Zack and Ettore get that and weren’t long before they were down at the young Warriors’ level getting them to show their stuff to the two REDBLACKS’ players.  “Both Zack and Ettore are exciting guys who have played football from a young age.  They get it and love to share it”, states Paul Stewart, Warriors President.

Say HELLO to Ottawa REDBLACKS DLmen Zack Evans and Ettore Lattanzio Warriors!!! Starting D-Linemen Zack Evans (in black) & Ettore Lattanzio (in red) greet our Warriors Tyke players.

Warriors starting QB Louis Turpin looks a bit “Star Struck” between the two towering REDBLACKS Zack Evans and Ettore Lattanzio (who is also a NCAFA alumni).

Avery Stuart who is 8 years old enjoying the time of his young life with our REDBLACKS guests Zack Evans and Ettore Lattanzio.

Jordan Devost’s 1st year playing football has been a fantastic experience and we’re sure tonight will be a memory he will not soon forget. THANKS ZACK and ETTORE!!!

Our excited TYKE team with our Ottawa REDBLACKS guests Zack Evans (huge guy in back) and Ettore Lattanzio (huge guy in front).

The REDBLACKS guests then went to work with our Bantam team (ages 14-15).  The Bantams are undefeated this year and have a number of players who undoubtedly will play at the next level so they were eager for some professional advice.  The Bantam coaches basically handed the reins over to Zack and Ettore and stood back to take in the instruction and drills.  “It was literally awesome.  Every single player that took part in the drills picked up some great tips.  The coaches were taking it all in as well.  They weren’t just coaching the players, they were coaching the coaches too.  FANTASTIC”, summarizes President Stewart.

Bantam players, coaches (and parents) couldn’t be more thankful for Zack Evans, Ettore Lattanzio and the Ottawa REDBLACKS for supporting our team!

THANKS SO MUCH to the Ottawa REDBLACKS, the coordinator Michael Nimmo (great guy) & our two guests Zack Evans and Ettore Lattanzio.  We may have to make these guys Honorary Warriors For Life!

Beautiful day for the 22nd Annual Golf Fundraiser

We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day for 22nd Annual Bell Warriors Golf Tournament Fundraiser on July 22nd.  The annual event was held at the Amberwood Village Golf & Country Club in the heart of Stittsville again this year.  Although our numbers were a little down this year, our corporate support couldn’t have been better and a great time was had by all.

Special thanks has to go out to Dan Crabtree, this year’s fundraiser event organizer, who accumulated more corporate sponsorship than we’ve ever had before.  Dan also added some special features that really made for a special day for those in attendance including a very nice cigar sale and raw oyster hole.   That was awesome.  This year’s generous hole sponsors were:

B and B Drywall
Central Building Corporation
Holliswealth – Greg Clarke & Dan Crabtree
Jennifer McGahan Interiors
King’s Independent – Chris King
M and M Drywall
Normar Drywall Inc.
Ontario Iron Works Ltd. – The Schwartz Family
Scotty’s Corner Diner – Scott Statham
Sunlife Financial
The Glen – James  Clarke
TMSI – Darrin McCorriston
Turpin Kia – Fern Turpin
United Building Products
Zito Plastering & Stucco Ltd. – Joe Panuccio

See you next year!

The Harris and Adams families are always smiling and in attendance.

Admittedly not a golfer, Chrisitine Lavigne isn’t afraid to step up to help out whenever help is required. A great Warriors mom!

A Warriors event wouldn’t be the same without the Schwartz family. Youngest Steven, who turned 17 that day, was enjoying the day with his dad Ken and mom Carmen who was behind the camera. What a great family!

L to R Jake Papalia, Tim Sheahan (VP), Carl-Andre Potier (Coach) and Paul Stewart (bad golfer)

Thanks to everyone was able to make it out!

6th Annual Warriors Day in Bayshore this Year

The 6th Annual Warrior Day will be held at the Bayshore Park Sens Rink this year, Saturday, May 13th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.   The annual FREE event is always full of excitement and a lot of fun.   The event this year will combine a Free Punt-Pass-Kick Competition with our Flag and Tackle Football Registration Day.   In addition to a load of prizes that the youth will be competing for, every participant will receive a free BBQ hot dog and drink.
