Bell Warriors Enter Our 64th Year

February 22, 2019/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

“2018 marked the 63rd anniversary of our league (NCAFA) and the Bell Warriors Football Club.  The good we do and good we have done is a simple product of setting a proud example of selfless commitment to our community, our club, our players and each other.  We are stronger and better when we work together as a team and whether our youth appreciate the example we set at the time, someday they will.  Those that can do.  Those that can do more volunteer.  Our success as a non-profit community association and football club is a product of years of building on our successes.  We have much to be proud of and it is in situations like this that we have a forum to praise our many caring volunteers; to be grateful for the experience; and proud of our many accomplishments.   2018 was a great year and I am excited to see what we can achieve.”  – summed up Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors President at the Warriors AGM held Feb 21.

2018 Head Coaches Are Announced

January 15, 2018/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

GO WARRIORS!!!

It is easy to feel exhilarated and immensely satisfied with the direction the club will be taking this year.   We have 4 great men that have all stepped up to continue our club’s long and great legacy.  We hand-chose each of them to take on this important responsibility and that’s because we have faith that no one would be better suited for the jobs.

It is with absolute pride that we announce that Brian Patterson will be returning as our Tyke Head Coach.  This will be Coach Brian’s 16th year coaching with our club and again this year, there is no one involved with the club that didn’t have Coach Brian coach one of their children at one time or another.  He’s a true gem!

At Mosquito, grizzled veteran Pat Kilmartin brings his 22 years of coaching experience to continue mentoring our players as our Mosquito Head Coach.  Pat is respected as a passionate, caring and motivational coach that lives to build confidence and who truly admires spirit, dedication, responsibility ant team spirit.   Thank you Coach Pat!

Our Pee Wee Head Coach is going to be Paul Gowans who, way back when, was a Warriors player and Warriors’ Coach in an earlier life.  Coach Paul has coached football for 28 years and is respected throughout the football community as an exceptional coach, leader and mentor.  He has had numerous coaching roles at much higher levels and currently is a dedicated athletics teacher at South Carleton High School.   On a editorial note:  he coached both of my boys at South Carleton H.S. when they still had a football program and on every level, he earned my respect and admiration.  Paul is back and we couldn’t be happier with that!

Last but certainly not least is our new Bantam Head Coach Richard Baylin which has done nothing but win as a previous Head Coach at both Mosquito and Pee Wee.  Coach Rich does it with such a positive, constructive and measured demeanour that he attracts families to our program.  He sets the tone for what our program aspires to be.  He’s a true gentleman that happens to have a passion for mentoring youth and football.  What a perfect role model for our program, families and players!  Thanks Coach Rich for stepping up.

Join us in congratulating these experienced men on stepping up to steer this year’s tackle programs.  The Warriors will be playing in our 63rd year and we are so excited to have these four coaches leading the way.  THANK YOU GENTLEMEN!!!

6th Annual Warriors Day a Hit

May 14, 2017/in Headlines, Uncategorized /by Paul Stewart

The Warriors didn’t let a little rain dampen their enthusiasm  this past Saturday.  The event was moved to a new location this year which was the partial result of the wildly wet spring and restricted field access.  This year’s Punt-Pass-Kick Competition and Registration Day was held at Bayshore Park in the outdoor Sens rink.  The last minute switch worked out perfectly and when all was said and done, everyone left having had a tonne of fun.

Dan Crabtree, VP of Finance for the Warriors, said of the event, “we have to work hard to get word out about our programs.  This event has always been a great launch of our registration season so we were glad to find a new location that would allow us to host Warriors Day again this year.  It was a great day.”

Bay Ward Councillor Mark Taylor came out to show his support. L to R: Dan Crabree (VP); Paul Stewart (President); Paul Gowans (Pee Wee Coach); Mark Taylor (City of Ottawa Councillor)

Thanks to everyone that came out.  BBQ was great and the free Warriors event saw lots of new faces which were getting exposed to our great sport.  Next up – Girl’s Spring Touch Football, the return of our Spring Flag Football after a 10 year hiatus and of course our Spring Tackle Football tryouts.  Never a dull moment with our Warriors!

Teacher Paul Gowans Returns to the Warriors

February 19, 2017/in Headlines, Uncategorized /by Paul Stewart

The Warriors are excited to announce some great news for the upcoming 2017 tackle football season.  Paul Gowans will be returning to the Warriors to join our Pee Wee staff.  Paul is a Warriors alumni and coached with our program for years.  Most recently, Paul is the Athletic Director at South Carleton H.S.  He currently coaches their wrestling team and for many years, Paul was head coach of the football program at South.  Unfortunately, South no longer has a football program which is their loss but our gain.

Paul will be working on the offensive side of the ball for our newly named Pee Wee Head Coach Richard Baylin.   This will not be the first time the two men shared time on the gridiron for the Warriors.  Many years ago, the two played together with our Club.  “Rich is a class act.  His last stint as head coach was with our Mosquito club in 2015 where he oversaw an 8-0 season.  Rich was with our Pee Wees last year preparing for his transition to Head Coach.  We’re excited to have Rich in this new role and back together with his old Warriors teammate” – Paul Stewart, Warriors President

Rounding out our Pee Wee core coaching staff are Geoff Forsyth.  Geoff is a long-time Warriors coach and was our Mosquito Head Coach in 2016.  Joining the three men will be George Stengel who was our Mosquito OC last year.

Best of luck this upcoming season gentlemen!
