Think of Volunteer as a Coach or Manager

February 25, 2019/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

Think of joining a NCAFA Non-Contact football program (Girl’s Touch or Co-Ed Flag) as a coach or manager.  Both are finished by the end of June.  You will help kids have a great experience and you will get more back than you give.  Check out our programs at www.ncafa.ca pr email info@bellwarriors.ca for details.

Jack Rabb of Richmond stepped up to coach our Flag Football program and had a ball. Why don’t you give it a go too?

10 Years but worth the wait – FLAG IS BACK!

May 27, 2017/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

It’s been over a decade since the Warriors hosted their successful Spring Flag Football Program but it’s back and with great enthusiasm! “I wouldn’t have been involved with the club if it wasn’t for flag nor would my past DC Terry Schaefer or current OC  and Club VP Tim Sheahan.  It was a very important program to get youth introduced into our great sport back then.  Unfortunately over time, we lost some key volunteers and it fell by the wayside”, states Paul Stewart, Warriors President

This past winter Charlie Keenan reached out to the Warriors.  Charlie is attending Queens University but had some time that he wanted to dedicate to giving back to his old club.  Charlie not only started playing football with our flag program but he became one of the very best players our club had at the time.  “Charlie was athletic, ultra-intelligent and driven”, states Stewart.  “I had the fortune to coach Charlie and when he chose to reach out to help our club, I was determined to find him a job.  Together we soon landed on Charlie being an instrumental volunteer to re-introduce our Spring Flag Football Program.”

The league started Saturday morning and fielded 7 full teams ages 7-13 with over 60 players.   Another key component of the re-launch was the use of Warriors alumni as coaches and referees for the program “We couldn’t be happier with the re-launch.   We volunteer to set an example for our youth and to see Charlie and so many Warriors alumni return to do the same is simply amazing”, concludes Stewart.

Tyke players Avery Stuart (left) and Louis Turpin are reunited week 1 of the Warriors 2017 Spring Flag Football Program. They were buds last year and will be leaders on our Tyke Tackle Football team this year.

Wariors Alumni Jack Rabb is one many ex-Warriors that have returned to coach our program. Gotta luv the way our Warriors are giving back! Class Act Jack!

THANKS CHARLIE KEENAN for taking on the task and making our re-launch of our Spring Flag Football Program a resounding success!

Silent Auctions set New Record

January 8, 2017/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

The 5th Annual Bell Warriors Silent Auctions were held in conjunction with our annual team banquets Saturday, January 7th at The Ale – Amberwood Lounge & Eatery.   The new location for our banquets combined with a very competitive group of parents led to a record-setting two events.  In all, when we took in revenues from the Raffles and Silent Auctions from our Tyke/Mosquito Awards Brunch and Pee Wee/Bantam Dinner, the Warriors brought in over $6,000 which will be set aside to ensure we keep our club and sport “Affordable for All“.

1st of two Silent Auctions are set up and ready for the onslaught of excited bidders.

The competitive scrutiny begins at our Record-Breaking Silent Auctions!

Some of our many door prizes which included a really-nice Warriors Helmet signed by the entire Warriors Mosquito team. What a great keepsake!

Some late items for our annual Raffle which included this very nice basket from Coach Normand Fortier (or Pattison Outdoor Advertising) and a terrific “Warriors Cake” made especially for our event by The Sweet Room Bakery and Boutique (of Stittsville)

Our RAFFLE which included a fantastic BBQ donated by Brown’s Independent Grocer in Stittsville

To everyone who helped line-up donations, organize the auctions, donated to our fundraiser and bought items, we say a huge THANK YOU!    #warriors4life

June 25, 2016/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

The Bell Warriors Jim Wagdin Scholarship Program offers two $1,000 scholarships to ex-Warriors who are pursuing post secondary education. Participation in a post secondary football program is not a pre-requisite. There are however, three selection criteria – Academics, Warrior Experience, and Community Involvement. Applications must be submitted by August 1 and must include an original letter describing both the applicant’s experiences with the Warriors as well as his/her volunteer involvement with the community, a transcript of the applicant’s previous year’s marks, a notice of acceptance from the selected university/college (for first year students) OR a note from the school indicating the applicant’s return for a succeeding year, as well as any letters of reference.

Scholarships Winners facebook

An independent committee, as chosen by the Club executive, makes the selections. Please send application details to president@bellwarriors.ca.  Jim Wagdin was a coach with the Bell Warriors for 24 years and retired from the club as President in 2012.  His commitment to the Warriors and his community reflect the values the Warriors want to reinforce in our players with this post-secondary scholarship program.  Since the Warriors introduced the program, $32,000 has been given to ex-Warrior players to support their scholastic goals and aspirations. An applicant will only be eligible for selection for the scholarship a maximum of two times. The only exceptions will be:

(i) The independent committee deems an application does not meet the three selection criteria and/or
(ii) An insufficient number of eligible applications are received prior to the deadline.

More details can be found on our Scholarship Page.  Good Luck!

August 6, 2015/in Headlines /by Paul Stewart

A full slate of golfers were on hand Saturday July 25th for the 20th Annual Bell Warriors Fundraiser Golf Tournament at the Richmond Centennial Golf Course.  A record amount of money was raised which will all go to support the purchasing and recertification of player equipment.  The Warriors supply all of players’ equipement and player safety is of the utmost importance to the club.  Fundraisers like our annual golf tournament are vital to the Warriors ongoing efforts to provide our young athletes with the best of equipment.
