Volunteers of the Year – Troy & Allison MacLeod

At our 2019 Volunteer Appreciation Night, our Warriors volunteers gathered for some food & drink and a night to spend some time with our Warriors friends that we’ve made this season and over the years.  It is always a festive celebration and the highlight is the naming of our Volunteer of the Year.

This year we broke new ground selecting Volunteers of the Year – Troy & Allison MacLeod of Richmond, ON.

A quote from Dan Crabtree, VP of Finance, in support of their winning selection stated,  “Troy & Allison MacLeod are the basis of so many of our club’s services.  I am hands down in support of Troy and Allison as volunteer(s) of the year nominees.  They exemplify “going above and beyond”.   They have done so much behind the scene work for Bell over the years and they always made people feel like it was “no problem”.   They have recruited for the club and driven countless of players as well.  This year Allison oversaw our Warriors Wear and Promo Items orders which included sourcing out a new supplier and hosting a new website for orders.   Troy, in his position as Equipment Manager, organized all of the supplies needed to host our 4 levels of Winter Workouts, our 11 weeks of Flag Football, all of our equipment fittings for each level, and game day setup for all four of our tackle football teams.   The couple are not only great Warrior volunteers, they are a shining example of what the impact dedicated volunteers can have in their community.”   – Dan Crabtree, Bell Warriors VP of Finance

Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors President, presented the prestigious award after saying, “Troy and Allison MacLeod work tirelessly year round as a true tag-team.  We work annually to add value for our families and most importantly, set an example for our young players.  Football should be all about being selfless, supportive, caring, and dedicated.  This is where this lovely couple truly shines.   In my 16 years with the club, I have never had more committed volunteers.  Their pleasant demeanor and tireless approach to giving back has also caught on with our many other volunteers.  They have truly embodied a culture that we have been working to instill.  I am proud to consider them as friends and thankful for their contribution to our league and club.” – Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors President

Veronica Papalia is the Volunteer of the Year

Think of how much great work all of our volunteers did this year to go the extra mile and create a community-minded culture. Now imagine doing it for 10 straight years. Then imagine doing it even after your children’s playing days with the club are done. That’s exactly what our 2017 Warriors Volunteer of the Year Veronica Papalia has done.

This award is meant to encourage, inspire and symbolize what our club embraces and values and we couldn’t be happier or more proud of this year’s winner.

L to R: VP Dan Crabtree, Veronica Papalia (Bantam Team Manager & ’17 Volunteer of the Year), Paul Stewart (President)

2016 Volunteer of the Year Announced

At the recent Volunteer Appreciation Night, the Warriors announced that Bantam parent Kelly Broad is the recipient of the Frank Napolitano Volunteer of the Year Award for 2016!  President Paul Stewart made the presentation noting that, “so many of the volunteers that were on hand that night could well be worthy recipients.  With this award we’ve tried to highlight volunteers that have taken on unique roles with the club and who’ve left a legacy with their selfless commitment to our players and club.  Although this year’s recipient may not be as recognized by everyone in the club, we wanted our Warriors to realize what a true inspiration Kelly Broad was.”

Kelly did not have an official role with the club but this did not stop her in any way from seeing work to be done and stepping in whenever possible.  Whether it was from supplying tents for our sidelines, warm and/or dry clothing for our boys or pre-game meals for our players, Kelly was on it.  When she heard players couldn’t afford cleats, she bought new pairs.  When she heard players needed drives to and from games, Kelly was on it and when she learned of the financial challenges that many of our young players faced, she chose to be part of the solution.  She approached the club early in the season with wishes to start a bursary to financially support players in need to honour the 5th anniversary of the loss of her husband Dion.  “With Kelly, it is about being selfless and being motivated to make a difference with her actions.  Seeing her caring and commitment for our players and club was nothing short of amazing this year.  We are very proud of the example of good will Kelly gave our players this year and couldn’t be happier with this year’s selection for Volunteer of the Year Kelly Broad.” ~ Paul Stewart, Bell Warriors President

“Brian Patterson is what starts it all off.  He has been a dedicated coach and Head Coach for over a dozen years at our Warriors’ Tyke level.  He’s not an internet, email, Facebook guy but he is the ultimate guy to set the tone for a club’s values with our Warriors’ families and players. He is a coach with a quiet demeanor that is competitive but most importantly, Brian likes being around kids.  He involves his entire team in his games so that they all can enjoy an opportunity for success.  They all leave our tyke program with a love for our sport, a good fundamental’s foundation and a pride in being a Warrior.  When he isn’t coaching with us, he’s driving boys to track & field or coaching them basketball in the off-season.  He not only is a great Warrior volunteer, he is a shining example of what the impact a dedicated volunteer can have in their community.”

The award was presented to Coach Brian by one of his past players Quinn Stewart who played 3 years under coach Brian.

Here is the perspective from our Bantam Head Coach and President of our Club:   “Brian Patterson coached both of my boys and he is responsible, more than any other coach in our club, in instilling a love of football.  They both looked up to Brian as do I.  I was lucky enough to coach with Brian for 4 years (my first 4 years).  The bench was always calm.  The practices were always focused on having fun but always with a goal to improve each and every one of our players’ football skills.  As I moved up through the club, my appreciation for his commitment to our Tyke program grew.  It is a rare person that will continue to come back year after year to basically ‘start all over’ but that’s what Brian does.  He’s clearly a kid at heart who understands the importance in instilling pride, respect and confidence in our youth.  I am proud to consider him a friend and thankful for his contribution to our league and club.”

HERE’S TO COACH BRIAN PATTERSON … A TRUE GEM!  THANK YOU BRIAN!
